Acetylation
Adding an acetyl group, usually at the N-terminus. It raises the molecular mass by 42 g/mol. Variants such as N-acetyl Semax or N-acetyl epithalon are modified forms of the parent peptide.
In the lab
On the certificate of analysis the calculated mass must include the acetyl group. A difference of exactly 42 Da can indicate it is missing or present in addition.
