MALDI-TOF
Mass spectrometry with matrix-assisted laser desorption and time-of-flight analysis. It mostly produces singly charged ions and suits a quick mass check.
In the lab
Because MALDI mostly shows the singly charged ion, the signal sits about 1 Da above the neutral mass. The certificate should state which ion was evaluated.

- AggregationPeptide molecules clumping together, often with hydrophobic sequences.
- Amino acid analysisA method in which the peptide is fully hydrolysed and the individual amino acids are measured.
- Area percentThe unit of HPLC purity: the main peak's area divided by the area of all peaks.
- ChromatogramThe curve an HPLC run produces: detector signal over time.
- CounterionThe ion that balances the charge of a peptide salt, such as trifluoroacetate or acetate.
- DeamidationA degradation route in which asparagine or glutamine lose their amide group.
