TFA (trifluoroacetic acid)

A strong acid used in synthesis and HPLC purification. Peptides are then often present as trifluoroacetate salts. For cell work an exchange to acetate is sometimes wanted.

In the lab

A trifluoroacetate ion weighs about 114 g/mol. Exchanging it for acetate at about 60 g/mol raises the peptide content accordingly.
